What is Tequila?
Tequila is a distilled alcoholic beverage made primarily from the blue agave plant, which is native to the region surrounding the city of Tequila in the Mexican state of Jalisco. The drink is named after the city.
To produce tequila, the blue agave plant’s heart, or “piña,” is harvested and then cooked to convert the plant’s natural sugars into fermentable sugars.
